Need for a Community Response
Throughout lockdown, the role of community groups like PCHP has been vital in responding to the needs of those most at risk and isolated individuals in North Edinburgh. The hardest to reach individuals, not known to local statutory or third sector bodies, have struggled to access the essential support they need. PCHP is embedded in the communities of North Edinburgh and has been working with local people for over 35 years – our connections and experience have allowed us to reach out to at risk people and respond quickly and effectively to the needs of our community.
Even as lockdown eases and much of the attention and funding given to crisis support begins to move elsewhere, we know that the struggles facing many people will not fade away overnight. Some individuals and families are still shielding for health reasons, while others find themselves in situations of severe economic or emotional hardship. It is vital that we continue our work to support our service users, and anyone in our community who may be at risk, through this transition period and towards a healthy, safe and stable future.
With your support we can help families access:
- Food supplies: buying or accessing food to meet any specific needs.
- Fuel top-ups: towards increased household utility bills.
- Support for their children’s education: IT equipment, school supplies, art and play supplies.
- Phone top-ups: to use a phone/hot spot to access the internet.
- Emergency items: such as a child’s mattress or a microwave for a home.
Our services help reduce:
- Food poverty
- Fuel poverty
- Digital poverty
- Educational inequality
